Antiquing Adventures

Last Friday I woke up at 4:00am poured a cup of hot joe and my mom and I hit the road; our destination Berryville, Virginia. It was the first day of the Lucketts Fall Market and I was ready to hunt for treasure.

Just like other antiquing adventures I head out with a list of what I would like to find. But, at times that list gets thrown out the window and I find pieces I wasn’t planning on. Its always good to have a plan but adapt and keep an open mind. I found a few specific pieces I was searching for, along with a couple unplanned finds.

This was my first time at Lucketts, at first I was overwhelmed, but once you head in, and get that first purchase, that feeling disappeared. I will say this market has a mix of retail pricing and deals. Many dealers beautifully display their wares and create amazing vignettes. The deals are hidden but can be found. I also came away with fresh inspiration and pieces that I will continue to hunt for. It was a great and successful trip and another antiquing adventure with my mom.

A few tips:

  • Create a list of what you would like to search for, but be open to discovering other pieces and not finding exactly what you are looking for.

  • If you do the early bird ticket, which I did and recommend, keep walking once you get in. Everyone tends to stop at the first few tents and I found it was best to hit that on the way out and head further back past the crowd. Of course if a piece has caught your eye go for it first!

  • Look everywhere! Move pieces, check under tables, inside cabinets; look, look, look.

  • Come with a cart it makes it much easier to haul your treasures around. At times I will head back to the car, unload, and head back to continue searching.

  • This market was designed well and can easily be done in a day. If I did return it would be on Sunday, the last day, to try and get last minute deals.

I am looking forward to returning next year and I will make a weekend out of it. While the drive was long it was easy but I want to explore the area more. It was such a beautiful spot with many different events, wineries, and shops. I hope these tips help, and if you have any please share them in the comments.

Until the next Antiquing Adventure!

Cheers,

Courtney
